Abstract (English): It is imperative to reflect on the foundations of education given its current situation and the rapid technological progress. Smartphones have become an integral part of human life, hence the need to turn the smartphones of college students into a teaching tool through activities prepared by the teacher. The objectives of the activity detailed in this paper are to develop active learning in art education, and motivate students to use sound thinking skills, and familiarize them with the need to handle what they learn in a scientific manner. The teacher asks students to draw the eye without any documentation at first and hangs the works on the board. Then the model is photographed, and the photo analyzed (details of each student’s eye). Students learn the scale of colors in the eye which was documented in black and white on the phone. The drawing is made again, the works are hung and compared with the previous ones by discussing and noting the obvious change after relying on the phone. Upon examining the sample consisting of the students’ works (before, during and after), results were as follows: the works of students who didn’t participate in this experiment were lower in quality than expected and the performance of attending students significantly improved. It is therefore recommended to document on the phone the knowledge we want to communicate to students in different educational stages, and to use smartphones as teaching aids that improve students’ observation and document their learning.
