Abstract (English): This study seeks to find role of Saudi novelist fiction in fiction writing differently in the last millennium than it was in its beginnings in which story was being told through classic themes following narrative approach taking into consideration prevailing social taste. With community transformation which influenced narrative writing, this brought fusion of contemporary characters and ideologies and self-conflict. In this sense, study published on (Before Memory Betrays) novel issued in 2014 as it carries narrative characteristics and its language based on imagery reflecting fundamental transformation of hero's life from religious extremism to intellectual openness. After preface, study has been initiated by introduction to "terminological approach" about problem represented by identity biographies and then divided into first topic fiction world belonging to novel text revolves around (Before Memory Betrays) according to biographical charter in addition to study elements belonging to outside of narrative text: export threshold– cover – press dialogues). Second topic was textual reading of novel on the following lines: (self-spoken & death- prison experience and self oppression - paradox at the events level). Research ended with conclusion that autobiographical novel is ethnological writing has its aesthetics and technical rules adding that biographical charter is an important factor in understanding narrative text dimensions and its approach critically. Abstract (Arabic): تسعى دراستنا هذه في البحث عن دور المحكي الروائي السعودي في الكتابة الروائية نحو شكل مغاير في الألفية الأخيرة ع ما كانت عليه ف ي بداياتها، الذي كان يحكي سيرته من خلال ثيمات كلاسيكية يسير فيها وفق منهج روائي مراعياً فيه الذائقة المحتمعية السائدة، ولكن مع التحولات المجتمعية التي أثرت بدورها في الكتابة الروائية، أحدث ذلك نوعاً من التمازج بين الشخصيات والأيديولوجيات المعاصرة والصراع مع الذات، ومن هذا المنطلق وقعت الدراسة على رواية )قبل أن تخون الذاكرة( التي صدرت عام 2014 م لمؤلفها )عبدالرحمن عايل(، لما تحمل من سمات الرواية السيرية، ولغتها القائمة على تداعي الذكريات ، الشاهدة على التحول الجذري في حياة البطل من التطرف الديني إلى الانفتاح الفكري. وقد استهلت الدراسة بعد المقدمة بتمهيد تمثل ب)مقاربة مصطلحية( حول الإشكالية في تحديد المصطلح السيرذاتي ، ومن ثم تقسيمها إلى مبحث أول دار حول العالم المحكي المنتمي للنص الروائي )قبل أن تخونالذاكرة( وفق الميثاق السيري، كذلك دراسة العناصر المنتمية لخارج النص الروائي من: عتبة التصدير- الغلاف – الحوارات الصحفية(. أما المبحث الثاني فقد كانت قراءة نصية للرواية حول المحاور التالية :)الذات المحكية والموت – تجربة السجن وقهر الذات - المفارقة على مستوى الأحداث( وانتهى البحث بنتيجة مفادها أن رواية السيرة الذاتية كتابة أجناسية لها جمالياتها وقواعدها الفنية، اضف أ ن )الميثاق السيري( يعد عاملاً مهما في فه م أبعاد النص الروائي و مقاربته نقدياً.
