    Alternate Title: Characteristics of Facial Serum from Seaweed Filtrate of Eucheuma cottonii and Ulva lactuca. (English)

    Abstract (English): The skin needs antioxidants to counteract free radicals that can originate from air pollution and exposure to ultraviolet rays. Eucheuma cottonii and Ulva lactuca are known to have high antioxidant content. Skincare products, including serums, can be used as an alternative to tackle skin issues by incorporating active ingredients from seaweed. This study aimed to determine the best formulation for the addition of E. cottonii and U. lactuca based on the characteristics of facial serum products using hedonic test parameters, pH, moisture, homogeneity, viscosity, and antioxidant activity.The study's treatments were classified into four categories: serum without the addition of seaweed filtrate (F0), serum with the addition of E. cottonii filtrate (F1), serum with the addition of U. lactuca filtrate (F2), and serum with the combined addition of E. cottonii and U. lactuca filtrate (F3). The method of data analysis employed the Kruskal-Wallis test and one-way ANOVA. The serum product's antioxidant value, hedonic score, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and moisture can be influenced by the addition of E. cottonii and U. lactuca filtrate. The study results indicate that the most optimal serum formulation was achieved by supplementing with E. cottonii filtrate (F1), exhibiting antioxidant activity (IC50) of 299.29 µg/ml, moisture of 58.42%, pH of 6.25, and viscosity of 276.71 cP. Moreover, this formulation was favored most by the panellists based on parameters such as appearance, color, odor, texture, and homogeneity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

    Abstract (Indonesian): Kulit membutuhkan antioksidan untuk menangkal radikal bebas yang berasal dari polusi udara dan paparan sinar ultraviolet. Rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii dan Ulva lactuca memiliki kandungan antioksidan. Produk perawatan kulit salah satunya serum dapat dijadikan alternatif dalam mengurangi permasalahan pada kulit melalui penambahan bahan aktif dari rumput laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan formulasi terbaik penambahan E. cottonii dan U. lactuca berdasarkan karakteristik produk serum wajah melalui parameter uji hedonik, pH, kelembapan, homogenitas, viskositas, dan aktivitas antioksidan. Perlakuan dalam penelitian dibagi menjadi empat, yaitu serum tanpa penambahan filtrat rumput laut (F0), serum dengan penambahan filtrat E. cottonii (F1), serum dengan penambahan filtrat U. lactuca (F2), dan serum kombinasi filtrat E. cottonii dan U. lactuca (F3). Penambahan filtrat E. cottonii dan U. lactuca dapat memengaruhi nilai antioksidan, hedonik, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, dan kelembapan pada produk serum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formula serum terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan penambahan filtrat E. cottonii (F1) dengan aktivitas antioksidan (IC50) sebesar 299,29 µg/mL, kelembapan 58,42%, nilai pH 6,25, viskositas 276,71 cP dan paling disukai oleh panelis berdasarkan parameter ketampakan, warna, aroma, tekstur, dan homogenitas.
