Abstract (English): The article discusses the Baraga Seminary in Ljubljana, conceptually designed in 1936 by the architect Jože Plečnik. On the basis of new facts discovered in archival records, mostly in the legacy of the bishop dr. Gregorij Rožman and other relevant files and plans at the Archiepiscopal Archives in Ljubljana, construction documents and minutes of the city construction board at the Historical Archives Ljubljana, the article defines circumstances affecting the financing and the location choice. It also explains the architectural design of the seminary building and the bishop's role at its planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract (Slovenian): Prispevek obravnava Baragovo semenišče v Ljubljani, katerega idejno zasnovo je leta 1936 izdelal arhitekt Jože Plečnik. Na temelju novih ugotovitev, ki izhajajo iz preučitve arhivskega gradiva, zlasti zapuščine škofa dr. Gregorija Rožmana ter drugih relevantnih spisov in načrtov v Nadškofijskem arhivu v Ljubljani, ter gradbene dokumentacije in zapisnikov sej ljubljanskega mestnega gradbenega odbora v Zgodovinskem arhivu v Ljubljani, opredeljuje okoliščine, ki so vplivale na financiranje gradnje in na izbor lokacije ter pojasnjuje tako svojevrstno arhitekturno zasnovo semeniškega kompleksa kakor tudi vlogo škofa pri načrtovanju nove bogoslovne stavbe. Abstract (English): In relation to space, settlements and buildings, identity can be understood as a compound of features, which characterize them and make them recognizable. The text presents the use of the term identity, its different meanings and contexts: local and regional, social and individual, relative and absolute, visual and semantic identity and its linkage to genius loci and stabilitas loci. In terms of perception, the identity is the result of subjective identifi cation of structures in space, developed separately by every individual. In the second part the text provides an overview of the determination of identity within some international documents on conservation (The Granada Convention, The European Urban Charter, The Nara Document on Authenticity, Recommendation No. R (95) 9, The Habitat Agenda, The European Landscape Convention, The Krakow Charter, Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society) and within the Slovenian legislation (Spatial Management Act, Spatial Planning Act and Cultural Heritage Protection Act). The most important conclusion is that there is no generally accepted defi nition of this conception; only a cross-section of the identity's characteristics can be recognized. In Slovenian laws, handled in this paper, identity is only minimally represented or is not even mentioned. However, this does not apply to the Strategy of spatial development of Slovenia, which refers to local, regional and national identity, as well as architectural and spatial identity. Abstract (Italian): L'articolo defi nisce il concetto dell'identità in relazione a strutture edifi cate nell'ambiente, presenta la sua attuazione, i suoi diversi signifi cati e illustra la percezione delle strutture edifi cate in relazione all'identità del singolo individuo. Inoltre viene presentata una rassegna di come viene defi nito il concetto dell'identità nel detto contesto in diversi documenti internazionali giuridici e in alcuni documenti sloveni che si riferiscono alla conservazione e alla tutela del patrimonio abitativo, dello sviluppo dei centri abitativi e, nel caso della Slovenia, alla pianifi cazione del territorio. Abstract (Slovenian): Članek opredeljuje pojem identiteta v povezavi z grajenimi strukturami v prostoru, predstavlja njegovo uporabo in različne pomene ter opredeljuje sistem dojemanja identitete grajenih struktur v povezavi z identiteto posameznika. Poleg tega je v prispevku podan pregled opredelitev pojma identiteta v zgoraj navedenem kontekstu v mednarodnih pravnih aktih in nekaterih slovenskih dokumentih, ki se nanašajo na ohranjanje dediščine, razvoj naselij ter v slovenskem okviru še na urejanje prostora. Abstract (English): The paper deals with the construction and expansion of the historical settlement at Mengeš and its architecture during the socialist period. It sheds light on parallels with the general development and tendencies of socialism, and on the influence of these on formal aspects of the architecture in Mengeš. Furthermore, the text shows how a large increase in population and a need to solve housing problems, build public facilities and meet the needs and directions in this socialist country affected development, which resulted in disregard for the formal aspects of built structures. The architecture reflects a discontinuity between the old and new and a neglect of spatial and architectural characteristics. Yet the post-war building stock of this settlement -- which turned out to be an illustrative example of a formal (and structural) transformation that affected minor urban settlements in socialist period -- has to be recognised today as a part of the history of Mengeš and accepted as a co-creator of its identity. Abstract (Slovenian): Tekst obravnava izgradnjo historičnega naselja Mengeš v času socializma in stavbni fond iz tega obdobja. Nakaže vzporednice s splošnim gradbenim razvojem in usmeritvami ter osvetljuje vpliv slednjih na formalni vidik mengeškega stavbnega fonda. Prikaže, kako je bil ob velikem povečanju števila prebivalstva in posledičnem reševanju stanovanjske problematike, izgradnji šolske mreže in drugih javnih objektov ter izpolnjevanju usmeritev in potreb razvoja v socialistični državi formalni vidik večinoma zapostavljen, gradnje iz tega obdobja pa odražajo diskontinuiteto med starim in novim in neupoštevanje lokalnih prostorskih in arhitekturnih značilnosti. Kljub temu je povojni stavbni fond naselja Mengeš, ki je nazoren primer formalne (in strukturne) preobrazbe, ki je v obdobju socializma doletela manjša urbana naselja, potrebno razumeti kot del zgodovine mesta in njegove identitete.
