مستخلص: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is the fourth leading cause of death due to cancer, with the lowest survival rate of any cancer. One of the major obstacles for improving the outcome in pancreatic adenocarcinoma arises from the difficulty in diagnosing the disease at an early stage. Current methods for diagnosing pancreatic cancer are ineffective and/or impractical for identifying smaller, potentially curable lesions in the general population. Therefore the identification of tumor markers for the early detection of pancreatic cancer would be of invaluable clinical benefit. This review discusses the most important molecular markers which have been evaluated in pancreatic cancer either as diagnosis or therapeutic response markers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
