مستخلص: The purpose of this commentary is to bring the neglected phenomenon of subradiological silicosis and its implications to the attention of readers. We define subradiological silicosis as silicosis detectable on pathological examination of lung tissue but not visible radiologically. For extent of the phenomenon, we draw on a study using a large South African autopsy database of deceased miners and chest radiographs taken in life. At an International Labour Organization threshold of >1/0 only 43% of all pathologically detected cases were detected on chest radiograph, and only 62% of those classified on pathology as "moderate or marked" silicosis. Subradiological silicosis has a number of implications for research and practice: for dose-response studies of silicosis; for studies of the relationship between silica and conditions such as tuberculosis, lung cancer, and autoimmune disease, including the mechanistic role of fibrogenesis; for prognostication in silica exposed workers; and for workers' compensation criteria.

مستخلص: In the medical literature, the discussion of radial head subluxation (RHS) and nursemaid's elbow may highlight the ability to diagnose and treat the injured patient without obtaining imaging studies. This case reiterates the importance of a thorough physical examination and the use of appropriate imaging when point tenderness is exposed in the injured limb. With point tenderness to the arm, a child with a presumed RHS, otherwise known as nursemaid's elbow, should be evaluated using radiographic imaging to prevent additional potentially destructive physical manipulation of the patient's upper extremity.

مستخلص: Introduction: Ossification of the cricoid ridge mimicking impacted upper aerodigestive tract fish bone has been described in several case reports. We performed this study to determine the prevalence of such ossification in an adult population from Singapore and to identify specific imaging features that may aid in differentiating patients with cricoid ridge ossification from those with an upper aerodigestive tract impacted fish bone.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 442 lateral neck radiographs of patients aged 16 years and above that were taken at the adult emergency department at National University Hospital, Singapore, during the four-month period between 1 September 2014 and 31 December 2014.
Results: Ossification of the cricoid ridge mimicking fish bone appeared in 3.2% of our adult patients and was more common among patients aged above 40 years (n = 11/227; 4.8%). The ossified cricoid ridge was usually located at the C6 level (n = 9) and had a mean length of 5.5 (range 2-9) mm.
Conclusion: Ossified cricoid ridges may be misinterpreted on lateral neck radiography as ingested fish bones. While ossification of the cricoid ridge mimicking fish bones is rare, awareness of such ossification would reduce unnecessary further investigations of the upper aerodigestive tract in patients suspected of having an impacted foreign body.

مستخلص: Pneumatosis of the alimentary tract may occur from the esophagus to rectum as a result of a wide spectrum of conditions that range from benign to life-threatening. Although distinguishing between these 2 groups is of paramount importance for an appropriate clinical management, it still remains a challenge for the radiologist in the daily practice. In the light of the current literature, we provide in the present article a comprehensive review focusing on the clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings that most consistently may allow such a differentiation. We also provide a pictorial essay illustrating this range of diagnoses, briefly discussing each one.

مستخلص: By nature, idiopathic interstitial pneumonias have been diagnosed in a multidisciplinary manner. As classifications have been subject to significant refinement over the last decade, the importance of correlating clinical, radiologic, and pathologic information to arrive at a diagnosis, which will predict prognosis in any given patient, has become increasingly recognized. In 2013, the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society updated the idiopathic interstitial pneumonias classification scheme, addressing the most recent updates in the field. The purpose of this review is to highlight the correlations between radiologic and pathologic findings in idiopathic interstitial pneumonias while using updated classification schemes and naming conventions.

مستخلص: We report the case of a 22-year-old athlete who sustained a blunt thoracic trauma to the right chest causing a costal cartilage fracture. Plain radiographs revealed no abnormalities while sonographic (US) examination performed a week later because of persistent pain led to the diagnosis of a displaced fracture of the right tenth costal cartilage. A follow-up US examination confirmed the healing of the fracture and allowed the patient to return to competitive sport activity. We recommend the use of US in patients with persisting pain after thoracic trauma with negative plain radiographs of the ribs to rule out radiographically occult costal cartilage fractures. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
