    الوصف: Abstract Objective: Although some studies have examined the association between eating behaviour and elevated blood pressure (EBP) in adolescents, current data on the association between sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) and EBP in adolescents in Yunnan Province, China, are lacking. Setting: Cluster sampling was used to survey freshmen at a college in Kunming, Yunnan Province, from November to December. Data on SSB consumption were collected using an FFQ measuring height, weight and blood pressure. A logistic regression model was used to analyse the association between SSB consumption and EBP, encompassing prehypertension and hypertension with sex-specific analyses. Participants: The analysis included 4781 college students. Results: Elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were detected in 35·10 % (1678/4781) and 39·34 % (1881/4781) of patients, respectively. After adjusting for confounding variables, tea beverage consumption was associated with elevated SBP (OR = 1·24, 95 % CI: 1·03, 1·49, P = 0·024), and carbonated beverage (OR = 1·23, 95 % CI: 1·04, 1·45, P = 0·019) and milk beverage (OR = 0·81, 95 % CI: 0·69, 0·95, P = 0·010) consumption was associated with elevated DBP in college students. Moreover, fruit beverage (OR = 1·32, 95 % CI: 1·00, 1·75, P = 0·048) and milk beverage consumption (OR = 0·69, 95 % CI: 0·52, 0·93, P = 0·014) was associated with elevated DBP in males. Conclusion: Our findings indicated that fruit and milk beverage consumption was associated with elevated DBP in males, and no association was observed with EBP in females.

    الوصف: Purpose. This study was designed to review the primary sites, clinical manifestations, imaging features, treatments, and outcomes of 36 patients with orbital metastasis in North China. Methods. This was a retrospective review of 36 patients with orbital metastasis at Tianjin Eye Hospital between January 2010 and December 2020 in North China as well as a review of the literature. Results. Thirty-six patients were included in the study; 17 were male, and 19 were female, with an age range of 1–82 years (average 54.9 ± 19.8 years). All the tumours were unilateral. The mean duration from the onset of orbital signs to presentation at the hospital was 2.4 months (range 1–10 months). Breast carcinoma, gastrointestinal tract carcinoma, and lung carcinoma were the most common histological types. Proptosis, ocular pain, and diplopia were the most common clinical manifestations. The superior orbit was the most common quadrant involved. All patients received comprehensive therapy, including surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. The average follow-up time was 2.45 years (range 7 months to 5.5 years). Ten patients in this study died as a result of disseminated metastasis from the primary tumour. Conclusions. In North China, the most common primary cancer that metastasizes to the orbit is breast cancer, followed by gastrointestinal tract carcinoma and lung cancer. The increasing trend of orbital gastrointestinal tract metastases in North China in recent years is noteworthy. The survival rate of patients with orbital metastasis of neuroblastoma is low.

    الوصف: Aims: Atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter (AF/AFL) is a critical public health issue worldwide, and its epidemiological patterns have changed over the decades. This work aimed to assess the global trends of AF/AFL and attributable risks from 1990 to 2019. Methods and results: The present study utilized data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 to examine the temporal trends, attributable risks, and projections of AF/AFL. The estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) and age-standardized rate (ASR) were employed for this purpose. The findings revealed that in 2019, AF/AFL accounted for 4.72 million incident cases, 59.70 million prevalent cases, 0.32 million deaths, and 8.39 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Furthermore, the results indicated that males under 70 years of age had a higher incidence, prevalence, and DALYs than females, while the rates were similar for both genders between 70 and 74 years. However, this pattern was reversed in individuals over the age of 75, with females exhibiting a higher total incidence, prevalence, and DALYs than males. The age-standardized rates (ASRs) of prevalence, incidence, mortality, and DALYs increased with an increase in the socio-demographic index (SDI). The three primary contributors to AF/AFL were high systolic blood pressure, high body-mass index, and smoking. Majority of risk factors exhibited a unimodal distribution, with a peak between the ages of 50 and 70. Conclusions: The disease burden of AF/AFL is still severe worldwide and getting worse. To encourage prevention and treatment, systematic regional surveillance of AF/AFL should be put in place.

    الوصف: Comparatively little attention has been given to a contemporary examination on the gender disparities in publishing within the Communication field. The major goal of the research was to examine female scholars’ publishing performance and determine whether gender disparity exists in the publication rate of each gender. This study utilized bibliometric methods to conduct a gendered analysis of the publication rates among female and male lead authors in the top five Chinese Journalism and Communication journals from 2011 to 2020. The results confirmed the presence of consistent gender differences in the percentage of articles published by female and male authors. Data analysis also revealed an ongoing tendency towards decline due to female’s increasing educational background, improved academic collaboration and intensified government interventions. The findings of this study contribute to a better understanding of the current status of female scholars and may be used to promote discussion and actions related to gender and equity.

    الوصف: Abstract The lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) in spent lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) is a potentially valuable resource and a significant environmental pollutant. Unfortunately, most of the LiPF6 in a spent LIB is difficult to extract because the electrolyte is strongly adsorbed by the cathode, anode, and separator. Storing extracted electrolyte is also challenging because it contains LiPF6, which promotes the decomposition of the solvent. Here we show that electrolytes in spent LIBs can be collected by a less polar solvent dimethyl carbonate (DMC) wash, and LiPF6 can be concentrated by simple aqueous extraction by lowering ethylene carbonate (EC) content in the recycled electrolyte. Due to the similar dielectric constant of EC and water, reducing the content of EC in LIB electrolytes, or even eliminating it, facilitates the separation of water and electrolyte, thus enabling the lithium salts in the electrolyte to be separated from the organic solvent. The lithium salt extracting efficiency achieved in this way can be as high as 99.8%, and fluorine and phosphorus of LiPF6 can be fixed in the form of stable metal fluoride and phosphate by hydrothermal method. The same strategy can be used in industrial waste electrolyte recycling by diluting the waste with DMC and extracting the resulting solution with water. This work thus reveals a new route for waste electrolyte treatment and will also support the development of advanced EC‐free electrolytes for high‐performance, safe, and easily recyclable LIBs.

    الوصف: Abstract The regeneration capacity after an injury is critical to the survival of living organisms. In animals, regeneration ability can be classified into five primary types: cellular, tissue, organ, structure, and whole-body regeneration. Multiple organelles and signaling pathways are involved in the processes of initiation, progression, and completion of regeneration. Mitochondria, as intracellular signaling platforms of pleiotropic functions in animals, have recently gained attention in animal regeneration. However, most studies to date have focused on cellular and tissue regeneration. A mechanistic understanding of the mitochondrial role in large-scale regeneration is unclear. Here, we reviewed findings related to mitochondrial involvement in animal regeneration. We outlined the evidence of mitochondrial dynamics across different animal models. Moreover, we emphasized the impact of defects and perturbation in mitochondria resulting in regeneration failure. Ultimately, we discussed the regulation of aging by mitochondria in animal regeneration and recommended this for future study. We hope this review will serve as a means to advocate for more mechanistic studies of mitochondria related to animal regeneration on different scales.

    الوصف: Hybrid breeding is an effective approach to generate better varieties and prevent variety degradation. The present study investigated the metabolic changes underlying growth superiority in the novel Gymnocypris hybrid (GH), Gymnocypris przewalskii ♀ (GP) × G. eckloni ♂ (GE). The ranking of survival rate was GH > GE > GP, whereas the ranking of growth rate was GE > GH > GP. A proteomic analysis of G. hybrid and its parents was conducted to elucidate the metabolic changes underlying growth superiority. Identified pathways were primarily associated with amino acid, carbohydrate, energy, lipid, and nucleotide metabolism. These metabolic pathways, which are closely associated with growth, are controlled through regulation of the expression of numerous proteins, including adenosylhomocysteinase, hydroxypyruvate reductase, glutamate-cysteine ligase, L-lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, GDP-L-fucose synthase, pyruvate kinase, fructose-bisphosphate aldolase, carbonic anhydrase, phosphopyruvate hydratase, phosphoglycerate kinase, S-(hydroxymethyl) glutathione dehydrogenase, and AMP deaminase. Real-time PCR assays showed that the level of mRNA expression of differentially expressed genes was positively correlated with growth. Proteins that were differentially expressed in GH exhibited fewer differences from GP and more differences from GE. These data are the first to reveal the molecular mechanism whereby growth is regulated in G. hybrid and its parents at the protein level. The study thus provides important information for genetic breeding and improvement of G. hybrid for aquaculture production.

    الوصف: Longjing tea is favored by consumers due to its refreshing and delicate aroma, as well as its fresh and sweet flavor. In order to study the processing technology of Longjing tea with ‘Baiye 1’ tea varieties, solid phase microextraction and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry were used to analyze the volatile components of Longjing tea in different process stages. The results revealed the identification of 275 aroma metabolites in the processing samples of Longjing tea. The sensory evaluation and principal component analysis revealed that the leaves of fresh (XY) and spreading (TF) were different from the leaves of first panning (YQ), second panning (EQ), final panning (HG), and fragrance enhancing (TX). The relative contents of geraniol (1199.95 and 1134.51), linalool (745.93 and 793.98), methyl salicylate (485.22 and 314.67), phenylethyl alcohol (280.14 and 393.98), 2-methylfuran (872.28 and 517.96), 2-butenal (56.01 and 154.60), and 2-hexenal (46.22 and 42.24), refreshing and floral substances in the XY and TF stages, were higher than other stages. The aroma contents of 2-methylfuran, furfural, 2-methyl-1-penten-3-one, 3-hexen-2-one, dodecane, hexanoyl hexanoate, 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine, and methyl-pyrazine were found to be significantly positively correlated with the intensity of chestnut aroma. In conclusion, this study contributes to a better understanding of the composition and formation mechanism of chestnut-like aroma and provides new insights into the processing technology to improve the quality of albino green tea.

    الوصف: The relationship of PAX1/JAM3 methylation as well as HPV viral load (VL) with cervical lesions has been reported, but their role in persistent HPV infection without cervical high-grade lesions has not been fully elucidated. A total of 231 females diagnosed with persistent HPV infection and pathologically confirmed absence of high-grade cervical lesions were selected from the Colposcopy Outpatient Clinic of Peking University People’s Hospital, from March 2023 to December 2023. They were categorized into two groups based on the duration of HPV infection: the HPV persistent less than 3 years group and the more than 3 years group. PAX1/JAM3 methylation and HPV VL were determined by real-time PCR and BioPerfectus Multiplex Real-Time (BMRT)-HPV reports type-specific VL/10,000 cells, respectively. The average age of individuals with HPV infection lasting more than 3 years was higher compared to those with less than 3 years (48.9 vs. 45.1 years), with a statistically significant difference. Among the participants, 81.8% (189/231) had no previous screening. The methylation levels of JAM3 and PAX1 were significantly higher in individuals with HPV infection persisting for more than 3 years compared to those with less than 3 years, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). There was a significant correlation between PAX1 and JAM3 methylation (p < 0.001), which could be used as cumulative evidence of HPV infection duration before the occurrence of precancerous lesions. The incidence of vaginal intraepithelial lesions was higher in individuals with HPV infection persisting for more than 3 years compared to those with less than 3 years, and HPV VL can be used as an indicative biomarker for concurrent cervical–vaginal lesions, especially for HPV other than 16/18 genotypes.

    الوصف: Lactate has emerged as a key player in regulating neural functions and cognitive processes. Beyond its function as an energy substrate and signal molecule, recent research has revealed lactate to serve as an epigenetic regulator in the brain. However, the molecular mechanisms by which lactate regulates spatial memory and its role in the prevention of cognitive disorders remain unclear. Herein, we injected L-lactate (10 μmol/kg/d for 6 d) into the mouse’s hippocampus, followed by the Morris water maze (MWM) test and molecular analyses. Improved spatial memory performances were observed in mice injected with lactate. Besides, lactate upregulated the expression of synaptic proteins post-synaptic density 95 (PSD95), synaptophysin (SYP), and growth associated protein 43 (GAP43) in hippocampal tissues and HT22 cells, suggesting a potential role in synaptic transmission and memory formation. The facilitative role of monocarboxylate transporter 2 (MCT2), a neuron-specific lactate transporter, in this process was confirmed, as MCT2 antagonists attenuated the lactate-induced upregulation of synaptic proteins. Moreover, lactate induced protein lactylation, a post-translational modification, which could be suppressed by MCT2 inhibition. RNA sequencing of lactated-injected hippocampal tissues revealed a comprehensive gene expression profile influenced by lactate, with significant changes in genes associated with transcriptional progress. These data demonstrate that hippocampal lactate injection enhances spatial memory in mice, potentially through the upregulation of synaptic proteins and induction of protein lactylation, with MCT2 playing a crucial role in these processes. Our findings shed light on the multi-faceted role of lactate in neural function and memory regulation, opening new avenues for therapeutic interventions targeting cognitive disorders.
