الوصف: Background: The concomitant occurrence of obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) causes a significant worsening of a patient’s clinical condition. Indexes that employ anthropometric measurements alone or associated with blood parameters have been investigated for their ability to identify MetS. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of three of these indexes, the body adiposity index (BAI), the lipid accumulation product index (LAP), and the cardiometabolic index (CMI), in a cohort of 1912 adult subjects with obesity. Methods and Results: MetS was found in 62.3% of the enrolled subjects, with a higher prevalence in males (72.5%) than females (60.9%). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to define which index performed better. The BAI was found to be the lowest-performing index, with an ROC area of 0.50, a sensitivity of 30.31%, a specificity of 74.48%, and a likelihood ratio of 1.19. On the contrary, the LAP and the CMI showed a comparable ROC area of 0.82. The LAP had a sensitivity of 63.06%, a specificity of 86.55%, and a likelihood ratio of 4.69, while the CMI had a sensitivity of 67.59%, specificity of 81.55%, and a likelihood ratio of 3.66. The analysis was also performed in the group divided into males and females, with overlapping results. Conclusions: The LAP and the CMI performed better than the BAI in detecting MetS both in the general population with obesity and in the male/female subgroups. In the future, it will be important to validate these useful diagnostic tools in order to employ them in clinical practices.

الوصف: Abstract Purpose Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease. Up to 40% of the population with diabetes experience diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The correlation of DKD with insulin resistance (IR) indices has been shown in previous studies. In this study, the objective was to evaluate surrogate IR indices, including the Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) index, Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI), Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP), and Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) to find the most valuable index for the correlation between albuminuria and IR in the type 2 diabetes (T2D) population. Albuminuria is defined as urine albumin excretion of > 30 mg/day. Methods In this cross-sectional study, 2934 participants were enrolled and evaluated for urinary albumin excretion, and albuminuria was detected in 526 of the entries. The logistic regression models and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed to assess the relationship of TyG index, VAI, LAP, and HOMA-IR's with albuminuria in patients with T2D. Results The TyG index had the highest association (OR 1.67) with the presence of albuminuria in patients with T2D, followed by HOMA-IR (OR 1.127), VAI (OR 1.028), and LAP (OR 1.004). These four indices remained independent after adjustment for multiple confounders. Based on the ROC curve, TyG revealed the best area under the curve (AUC) for revealing albuminuria with sufficient accuracy (AUC: 0.62) in comparison with other measured indices. The calculated TyG index cut-off point for the presence of albuminuria was 9.39. Conclusion Among the indices, TyG index had the most significant correlation with albuminuria in patients with T2D.

This study aimed to assess the longitudinal association between LAP index and incident type 2 diabetes among non-obese Korean adults using a large, community-based Korean cohort observed over 12 years.Patients and Methods: This study included 4281 non-diabetic adults without generalized obesity and abdominal obesity and aged 40– 69 years from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. The participants were divided into four groups according to LAP index quartiles, calculated as (waist circumference [cm] - 65) x (triglycerides [mmol/L]) in men and (waist circumference [cm] - 58) x (triglycerides [mmol/L]) in women. We prospectively assessed hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidential intervals (CIs) for incident type 2 diabetes using multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models. Results: Overall, 608 (14.2%) participants developed type 2 diabetes during the follow-up period. HRs for incident type 2 diabetes in the second, third, and fourth LAP quartile were 1.32 (95% CI: 0.97– 1.79), 1.51 (95% CI: 1.11– 2.06), and 2.14 (95% CI: 1.56– 2.94), respectively, after adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, smoking status, alcohol intake, physical activity, mean arterial blood pressure, family history of diabetes, and impaired glucose tolerance. Conclusion: A high LAP index can be an additional indicator for new-onset T2DM among middle-aged and elderly non-obese Koreans. Keywords: lipid accumulation product index, prospective cohort study, incident type 2 diabetes, Koreans

الوصف: The present study was conducted to assess the association between the lipid accumulation product index (LAP) and pulse pressure (PP) by gender in nondiabetic Korean adults. This study used the data of 8,240 nondiabetic adults (3,577 men and 4,663 women) aged ≥ 20 years from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013–2014. Key findings from the study were as follows: first, the mean values of age for the overall population, men, and women were 49.59 ± 15.73 years, 49.26 ± 16.04 years, and 49.85 ± 15.47 years, respectively. Second, in women (n = 4,663), after adjustment for related variables and with quartile 1 of LAP as a reference, the odds ratios (ORs) of high PP (PP > 60 mmHg) were significantly higher in quartile 3 [1.735 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.064–2.831)] and quartile 4 of LAP [2.271 (95% CI, 1.325–3.893)]. Third, high PP in men (n = 3,577) was not associated with the quartiles of LAP. Forth, after adjustment for related variables, the PP level was positively associated with the quartiles of LAP in women (p

الوصف: BackgroundWe aim to evaluate the four surrogate markers of insulin resistance (IR), including triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), lipid accumulation product index (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL), on prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to examine any possible effect modifiers in Chinese hypertensive patients.MethodsA total of 13,055 hypertensive participants were included in this cross-sectional study. In addition, average age of the study population was 63.81 ± 9.46 years, and 47.66% of them are men. The primary outcome was CKD, defined as eGFR

الوصف: BackgroundLipid accumulation product (LAP) index, as a new index to predict cardiovascular disease (CVD), has attracted the attention of many researchers. The relation of the LAP index with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) has been evaluated in several previous studies and yielded inconsistent results. This study aimed to investigate the association between the LAP index and arterial stiffness in the Chinese population with hypertension.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional analysis in 4,926 Chinese population with hypertension (aged 64.42 ± 9.44 years). The LAP index was developed from population-based frequency plots of adult waist circumferences and circulating triglyceride concentrations according to men and women. Arterial stiffness was determined by measuring baPWV.ResultsThe multivariate linear regression analyses showed that the LAP index was independently and positively associated with baPWV [beta coefficients (β), 24.10 cm/s; 95% CI: 5.72, 42.49 cm/s]. Consistently, the multivariate logistic regression analyses showed a positive association between the LAP index risk of elevated baPWV (>75th percentile) [odds ratio (OR), 1.19; 95% CI 1.01, 1.41]. A restricted cubic spline showed that a significant linear association existed between the LAP index and baPWV. In different subgroups of diastolic blood pressure (DBP), there is interaction between the LAP index and baPWV (DBP
