The higher the potential difference, the higher the driving force for localized corrosion.[2–5] The microstructure of Al–Si–Mg cast alloys is strongly heterogeneous, due to the presence of eutectic Si and a variety of Fe‐, Si‐, and Mg‐containing intermetallic compounds (e.g., β‐Al5FeSi, π‐Al8FeSi6Mg3, and β‐Mg2Si) which act as, Al–Si–Mg alloys, Surfaces, Coatings and Films, Mechanics of Materials, and Mg‐containing intermetallic compounds (e.g, SKPFM, Er and Zr addition, especially when the solution contains Cl− ions.[1] The kinetics of corrosion localization strongly depends on electrochemical properties of microstructural constituents, Er and Zr additions
