This Comment is informed by the discussions at a webinar on pandemic preparedness in the Eastern Mediterranean region held in September, 2021, jointly organised by the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Lancet-SIGHT Commission on Peaceful Societies through Health and Gender Equality, IPPPR, and Abu Dhabi Public Health Center. WK is the team lead, AA is the manager, and RJB is the regional emergency director of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean. AN was the head of the secretariat and TO was a member of the IPPPR.
