مستخلص: The authors demonstrate how external light injection into a directly modulated laser diode may be used to greatly enhance the performance of a radio-over-fiber system used for distributing WCDMA signals at radio frequencies around 6 GHz. Without external light injection, the laser non-linearity seriously degrades the adjacent channel leakage power ratio of the data signal to around -30 dBc, but with the external injection we obtain an improvement in the adjacent channel leakage power ratio of greater than 10 dB, which allows us to approach the performance specifications required for 3G communication systems.
