مستخلص: This paper deals with a numerical investigation, based on the Finite Element (FE) theory, of a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system for a large radio-telescope, aimed to damage detection and location. The investigated SHM system is based on the comparison of the Frequency Response Functions (FRFs) achieved under both pristine and damaged configurations, respectively. A preliminary study has been carried out in order to achieve information on the optimal sensors locations. As a result, the structural response of the radio-telescope under the inservice loading conditions has been numerically investigated. All FE analyses have been carried out by means of MD Nastran® code. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
