مستخلص: Renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) are globally promoted as measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and response to climate change. Under the context of budgetary constraint, especially in a developing country like Vietnam, different energy-related solutions should be weighted to obtain the appropriate solutions at a reasonable cost. In this paper, which is a case study in five Mekong provinces, the marginal abatement cost curve has been utilized to analyze the contribution of RE and EE solutions to GHG emission as well as their abatement costs, by 2020. The results indicate that all RE and EE solutions bring a total emission reduction benefit of 11.47 million tCO2e by 2020, being equivalent to 26.5% of the total emission of the five provinces. The abatement costs ranged from −US$59.71 to +US$318.53 /tCO2e. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
