This article presents a literary criticism on Thomas Pynchon's book "Gravity's Rainbow." Pynchon's fiction hardly seems formalist or humanist, but criticism dedicated to it has gone to great pains to show that Pynchon's disregard for conventions of novelistic character, style, and closure would certainly appeal to deconstructive critics interested in the critique of these metaphysically-oriented values. It would also attract Marxist critics interested in an undoing of the humanist repressions that produce those forms and values. |
