مستخلص: Plenty of studies regarding students' unscientific understanding of various topics of chemical concepts have been carried out for decades. The different tools from conventional to web-based and even multi-tier tools have been applied for the purpose. However, the study focusing on how aware are students of their scientific understanding is still limited. Two groups of students (65 in total) from a public senior high school in Malang Regency, Indonesia, participated in this study. A four-tier instrument in the topic of acid-base properties of salt solution was employed. Students' awareness regarding their scientific understanding was reflected in their confidence rating when providing the correct answer to questions in the four-tier instrument. The study shows a high confidence rating index/CRI of 4.29 (out of 5) when submitting a scientific response in many Acid-Base Properties of Salt Solution concepts that fall in the strong category and leading to a conclusion that the students are aware of their scientific conception. The implication of the results of the teaching and learning of acid- base properties is also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
