مستخلص: The beneficial use of chemicals in modern human society inevitably leads to their emission into the environment. The invaluable role pharmaceuticals play in delivering essential human and animal healthcare, however, does not necessarily explain the considerable interest still associated with pharmaceuticals as environmental contaminants. Pharmaceuticals are not the only contaminants present in a given compartment, and because of their ubiquitous presence in the environment we also have to think about combined effects of pharmaceuticals with, for example, pesticides, biocides and industrial chemicals, but also of combined effects with environmental stressors due to climate change, for example.
