مستخلص: Coastal plant induced wave attenuation is an important natural process, and its estimation is crucial to model and develop its potential for the emerging field of eco-friendly coastal defense systems. This paper focuses on relationships between wave attenuation and incident wave features such as depth of water, period of wave, plant density and friction on two cases monotypic and heterospecific plant meadows. Synthetic plant mimics were used to prepare the experiments. Using a flume device on a lab-scale the statistical method was used to design and investigate wave and plant properties for wave attenuation effect. In accordance with its relationship to the independent parameters examined, the linear factorial model developed from the experimental results was statistically tested and analyzed. The independent and interaction effects of the factors studied were identified on the wave attenuation effects associated to them. The results were compared and validated to a new set of experimental data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
