مستخلص: The production of malt barley is threatened by barley leaf scald caused by the fungus (Rhynchosporium secalis) is among the major foliar diseases affecting the production of the crop. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate malt barley cultivars for resistance to scald disease under natural infection of the field in north Shewa, in two locations of Debre Berhan University research field and Keyiet farmer's field during 2017/2018 main cropping season. Thirteen commercial malt barley cultivars were arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Cultivar Sabini, Grace, Bahati, HB-120 had significantly, the highest initial and final disease severity index while Cultivar Ibon, EH-1847, Miscal-21, and Traveler had significantly the lowest initial and final disease severity index values at both locations. Farmers in the study area are recommended to use those better performing cultivars like Ibon, EH-1847, Miscal-21, and other resistant and moderately resistant cultivars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
