مستخلص: Environmental changes echoing in modern society undoubtedly impose the need for changes and transformations in the educational system at an early stage. One of the priority goals of modern school education is to create key competencies responding to the age and individual needs of students. The formation and deepening of key competences from primary school age help to realize one of the most important tasks in the modern educational discourse: the ability to learn throughout life. This, in turn, determines the need to create competitive individuals, responding to the current crisis changes in the individual and professional realization of each individual. Knowledge, in its academic form, the mechanical learning of encyclopedic information, the memorization and "dental" reproduction of facts have long been no prerequisite for the successful realization of personality. That is why the modern educational discourse is aimed at mastering and deepening certain key competences (part of which is the environmental one), aiming to integrate the acquired knowledge into skills, attitudes, and attitudes. Proof of this is the creation of the European reference framework for key competences in 2007, which is a response to the recommendations of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe in this direction. This priority document for the educational system eloquently specifies the challenges posed to training, emphasizing the formation and deepening of key competences. This, in turn, determines the need to apply diverse approaches in the process of school education, create an adequate learning environment, as well as demonstrate pedagogical mastery. All this necessitates synchronizing the modern educational priorities of Bulgaria, in relation to the applied European practices and policies. Referring to the foundations of the competence approach, the substantive emphasis in the present article is aimed at creating a synergistic model for deepening environmental competence at an initial stage.
