A recent study conducted at Liuzhou Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital in Southern China investigated the distribution and clinical characteristics of hemoglobin variants in the Z region. The researchers collected samples from over 23,000 subjects and used various techniques, including capillary electrophoresis and sequencing, to identify rare hemoglobin variants. They discovered ten rare variants, including Hb Cibeles, which was reported for the first time in Asia.
