El artículo trata sobre los servicios de utilidad pública como una pena sustitutiva de la prisión para mujeres cabeza de familia. Se menciona la relación histórica entre el trabajo y el derecho penal, desde el antiguo Egipto hasta la Edad Moderna. Se destaca que la implementación de penas de trabajo ambulante, como los servicios de utilidad pública, puede tener ventajas como una mejor relación con el principio de igualdad y la posibilidad de contribuir a reducir la sobrepoblación carcelaria.
