مستخلص: Geotechnical Engineering is one of the sub fields in civil engineering. This course involves using the basic principles of geology and soil mechanics in determining the design and construction of safe soil structures. In the context of teaching in lectures, traditional methods such as slides and textbooks are seen as boring because teaching is only one-way and students do not have a medium to interact. Therefore, an effective lecture approach can ensure a better understanding and mastery of basic concepts in geotechnical engineering. The objective of this study is to get the students' perception of the appropriate teaching approach to be conducted in lectures using the Quizizz and Padlet applications for the Geotechnical Engineering course. Next, it also aims to identify the best methods that should be used for Geotechnical Engineering courses. Accordingly, this study also evaluates the effect of the approach of using both applications on the level of student understanding as well as the active involvement of students during the lecture session. This study involves a questionnaire on Year 3 undergraduate students of the 2022/2023 academic session, Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia who are following this course. The questionnaire for this study was conducted online, where student need to fill in the survey on the last day of the lecture session. From the research conducted, it was found that 82.10% of students agreed with the implementation of the Quizizz application and 57.10% of students agreed with the implementation of Padlet during lectures. However, there are 35.70% of students who answered not sure, 5.40% disagreed, and 1.80% strongly disagreed with using the Padlet application because they often have difficulties when they want to upload files. The Quizizz application is also seen as having the potential to be used as an e-assessment. This is because the application can automatically calculate student marks and thus can lighten the burden of student assignments as well as the burden of academics to mark assignments.
