Abstract (English): Reflecting on my involvement in planning education at RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) University since the early 1980s and with Urban Policy and Research, 1982–2003, there was a degree of optimism about what urban planning, through education and publication, might achieve, given the relatively favourable political and institutional circumstances of the time. The normalisation of neoliberal thinking across Australia by 2000, however, stymied such hopes. Looking back, I consider how I, as a teacher and a researcher, and UPR now a commercial journal, adapted to these challenging times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
