This article examines the rise and fall of the Club Kids, a group of eccentric and queer individuals who were prominent in the New York club scene in the 1990s. Led by Michael Alig, the Club Kids gained notoriety for their extravagant costumes and shocking behavior. However, their reign came to a violent end when Alig brutally murdered fellow Club Kid Angel Melendez. The article explores Alig's background, the origins of the Club Kids, their impact on mainstream culture, and the destructive behavior and drug use that ultimately led to their downfall. The article also discusses Peter Gatien, a key figure in the 90s New York club scene, and the controversy and legal issues he faced. The murder of Melendez highlighted issues of racism within the Club Kid scene and overshadowed his own contributions.
