| Abstract (English): |
The global beef industry is experiencing weaker demand, with producer prices rising in the USA and Europe, while Australia and Brazil offer lower prices. Import prices have been pushed down by weaker Asian demand. Although the global cattle herd is growing slowly, it cannot reverse the tight supply situation. The cattle population is decreasing in the USA, while it is growing in China and Australia. Trade in live cattle remains stable, particularly due to demand from Turkey. India is the largest exporter of live animals but experienced a 5% decline in 2023. Canada and Europe follow closely. Australia's live animal exports are increasing, while Brazil benefits from Turkish demand. North America leads in cattle imports, while the MENA region, especially Turkey, is loosening its import restrictions. Global beef trade is declining, with Asia being the main export destination. China saw a 3% decline in beef imports in 2023, with a 1% increase forecasted for 2024. Brazil remains China's main supplier, followed by other South American countries, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. The USA is the world's second-largest beef importer, followed by Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. Europe saw an 8% decline in beef imports in 2023. Brazil is the largest beef exporter with 2.65 million tons, followed by Australia. Global beef consumption is slowly recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the USA, China, and Brazil being the largest consumers.
