Charles Dickens, one of the important names of English literature, writes in his works about the reflection of moments of economic breakdown on social issues, such as the Industrial Revolution, the French Revolution, the working class, and the unprotected position of women and children in society. A Tale of Two Cities was written in 1859 and portrays the social and economic conditions of people living in London and Paris just before and during the French Revolution. It explains how economic differences, oppression and tyranny trigger the feeling of brutality. It shows the revolution's connection not only with change but also with violence. It reveals the individualism, altruism and authoritarianism underlying the political literature in the triangle of church, king and Jacobins. While describing the gap between feudalism's classes, it emphasizes the notion of consent within authority. After the Republic, he draws attention to the individual reckonings under the slogan of freedom and equality. Accordingly, social corruption is not a problem that can be solved by Enlightenment or revolution. After the French Revolution, corruption only changes classes, but corruption itself continues. In this study, the historical and political background of these events, corruption and characters discussed in A Tale of Two Cities was examined. The main question of the study is the intellectual foundations of the Enlightenment that made the revolution possible and how the Enlightenment and the revolution reached violence through the violent actions of the Jacobins who carried out the revolution and how Dickens established this connection in his book. The aim is to examine how the political and historical aspects of the French Revolution are explained in A Tale of Two Cities and to produce an interdisciplinary study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

İngiliz edebiyatının önemli isimlerinden olan Charles Dickens, eserlerinde Sanayi Devrimi, Fransız Devrimi, işçi sınıfı, kadınların ve çocukların toplumdaki korunaksız konumu gibi iktisadi kırılma anlarının sosyal meselelerdeki izdüşümünü kaleme alır. İki Şehrin Hikayesi 1859 yılında yazılmış olup, Fransız Devrimi'nden hemen önce ve devrim esnasında Londra'da ve Paris'te yaşayan insanların sosyal ve ekonomik durumlarının portresini çizer. Ekonomik farklılıkların, ezilmişliğin ve zorbalığın vahşet duygusunu nasıl tetiklediğini anlatır. Devrimin yalnızca değişimle değil, aynı zamanda şiddetle olan bağlantısını gösterir. Kilise, kral ve jakobenler üçgenindeki siyasal literatürün temelindeki bireyciliği, özgeciliği ve otoriterliği ortaya koyar. Feodalitenin sınıflar arasındaki uçurumunu betimlerken, otoritenin içindeki rıza mefhumunu vurgular.
