This article is based on a qualitative study of thirteen medico-social group homes in northern France. The objectives of the study were to observe the actions implemented in favour of environmental protection, and to communicate on these actions to enhance their value and encourage the sharing of experiences. The results show that, in addition to their impact on climate issues, these actions help to take better account of the individual aspirations of both the professionals who work there and the people who live there, to open the facilities to their environment and thus to diversify the social relationships of their residents. However, they come up against several constraints, particularly in terms of health, which reflect a view of disability that is tinged with misery and feeds an essentially protectionist approach. Taking disability into account, from a perspective of citizenship and not just protection, is a major challenge: the climate crisis will be tackled more effectively if it mobilizes all members of society, respecting their diversity and recognizing the wealth it represents. Cet article s'appuie sur une étude qualitative réalisée auprès de treize établissements médicosociaux implantés dans le nord de la France. Les objectifs de cette étude étaient d'observer les actions mises en oeuvre en faveur de la protection de l'environnement et de communiquer sur ces actions afin de les valoriser mais aussi de favoriser le partage d'expériences. Les résultats montrent que ces actions, outre leur impact face aux enjeux climatiques, participent à une meilleure prise en compte des aspirations individuelles tant des professionnels qui y exercent que des personnes qui y vivent, à une ouverture des établissements sur leur environnement et ainsi à une diversification des relations sociales de leurs habitants. Elles se heurtent toutefois à différentes contraintes, notamment sanitaires, révélatrices d'un regard sur le handicap teinté de misérabilisme et nourrissant une approche essentiellement protectionniste. La prise en compte du handicap, dans une perspective de citoyenneté et non exclusivement de protection, constitue pourtant un enjeu majeur: la crise climatique sera d'autant mieux combattue qu'elle mobilisera l'ensemble des membres de la société, dans le respect de leur diversité et la reconnaissance de la richesse qu'elle représente.
