مستخلص: Direct photons are produced throughout the entire evolution of relativistic heavy ion collisions and, because they interact only electromagnetically, could be a sensitive probe of the different stages of the collision. It may be possible to identify and characterize these stages through measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of photons from the collision. The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the second Fourier component v2 of the azimuthal anisotropy with respect to the reaction plane for direct photons at mid-rapidity and pt of 1-15 GeV/c in Au + Au collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 200 GeV. These results will be presented and be compared with measurements of hadron v2; in addition, model calculations for the v2 for photons will be compared to these data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
