مستخلص: This article recounts the experiences of biologists Jim and Holly A Akenson during the wildfires in the Frank Church–River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho in 2000. The couple, who lived and worked at Taylor Ranch, a research facility owned by the University of Idaho, were forced to evacuate due to the rapidly spreading fire. The article provides a firsthand account of the fire's devastation, including the destruction of buildings and the loss of hay. Despite efforts to put out the fire, some buildings were lost, but the individuals were able to prevent the hydro from burning and extinguished smaller fires. The fire spread rapidly, causing smoke that affected everyone's eyes and lungs, and there were reports of a large mushroom-cloud plume that collapsed on itself. [Extracted from the article]
