| Abstract (English): | This paper addresses the problems raised by the interconnections between the sanitary sewage system - absolute separator - and the storm water drainage system and their impacts on the hydrography of Rio de Janeiro City. It also describes the causes that originated those interconnections and their main structures, which are considered atypical when compared with conventional sewage systems. The type of sanitary sewage system - absolute separator - officially adopted is then questioned as regards its sanitary and environmental functions of wastewater collection, transport and final destination. This questioning indicates that many of the adopted solutions tended to mischaracterize and discredit the prospective advantages of this type of system. Finally, there is the need for a change of direction and trajectory of the interventions aimed to control pollution in Rio de Janeiro, which involves an urgent issue of socio-environmental responsibility. | Abstract (Portuguese): | Este trabalho reflecte sobre a problemática das interconexões entre os sistemas de esgotamento sanitário - separador absoluto - e de drenagem pluvial e seus impactos sobre a hidrografia da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Apresentam-se as causas de suas origens, descrevendo ainda as principais estruturas consideradas atípicas na concepção do sistema convencional de esgotamento. Verifica-se até que ponto o tipo de sistema oficialmente concebido - separador absoluto - de fato contempla suas funções sanitárias e ambientais de coleta, transporte e destino final adequado dos esgotos sanitários. Como resultado, verifica-se que muitas das soluções adotadas acabam por descaracterizar e desqualificar as vantagens deste sistema. Finalmente, observa-se a necessidade de mudança de direção e da trajetória das intervenções de controle da poluição no Rio de Janeiro, passando por uma inadiável questão de responsabilidade socioambiental.
