الوصف: Varietal differences with respect to yield losses due to whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Genn. attack were observed at the “sooty-mould level” and “economic threshold (ET) level” of infestation. At the peak infestation level leading to sooty-mould development, the losses varied from 21.7 to 31.8% in boll numbers, 10.3 and 23.7% in boll-weight; 25.9 and 48.9% in seed cotton yield; 12.4 and 15.3% in seed oil and 29.4 and 66.5% in seed germination among the group of promising new cultures viz., LK 861, LPS 141 and L 389 and other group of commonly cultivated varieties viz., JKHY 1, MCU 5 and ADB 10050, respectively. Besides, the fibre qualities like length, strength, fineness and maturity were also found to be adversely affected. Des differences sur les varietes de cotton en relation avec la perte du rendement due a l’attaque du Bemisia tabaci Genn. furent observees a 2 niveaux d’infestation; au niveau de la forme fuligineuse et de la forme ET. Au pic du niveau de l’infestation conduisant au developpent de la forme fuligineuse, les pertes variaient de 21,7 a 31,8% pour nombre de graines; de 10,3 a 23,7 % pour le poid de la graine; de 25,9 a 48% pour le rendement de la graine de coton; de 12,4 a 15,3 % pour l’huile provenant de la graine et de 29,4 a 66,5 % pour la germination des graines. Ces pertes ont ete recordes pour les nouvelles varietes prometteuses LK 861, LPS 141 et L 389 et autres varietes cultivees un peu partout tel que JKHY 1, MCU 5 et ADB 10050 respectivement. D’autre part les qualites des fibres telles que la longeur, la durete, la finesse et la maturite peuvent etre influencees negativement.
