الوصف: Background: Very low birth weight (VLBW; BW ≤1500g) infants with severe BPD may require prolonged mechanical ventilation. While tracheostomy in these patients is associated with adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, causality is difficult to show and tracheostomy placement may have other benefits in addition to provide a stable airway in this population.
