| الوصف: | Ancient images of struggle and battle provided viewers with a way of thinking about war. This study analyzes such images depicted on reliefs dating from the late 5th to the early 1st c. B.C., reaching from Athens to Lycia, the Black Sea region and Etruria, focusing on the visual language used in the reliefs, including motifs, stylistic features, and modes of representation. The analysis shows that, along with basic similarities in the visual language that allow comparison of the reliefs, there are also significant differences that suggest cultural differences in the concepts of war, battle, and violence. |
