مستخلص: Research in this study investigated the impact of assessment on the learning outcomes of students an academic year and the students' academic success on the Louisiana End-of-Course (EOC) test. This study utilized a mixed-methods, quasi-experimental pre- and post-test design that included a non-equivalent control group selection. Participants included students who live in a rural community and attend a high school located in a rural community. Existing test score data indicated that more than half of the students scored below average on the LEAP test for 8th grade and EOC for Algebra I. Research in this study investigated student success, motivation, and ownership of their learning in a rural community in the Southeast Region of Louisiana using self-assessment instructional practices. Self-assessment, a type of formative assessment, tells students how they need to improve their learning. Research in this study provides insight into self-assessment and the value it could add to teaching pedagogy.
