مستخلص: The school resource officer's primary purpose within schools is to maintain a visible presence and work to promote a safe and secure learning environment (Stern & Petrosino, 2018). The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) recommends a three-pronged approach to school policing termed the SRO Triad. The Triad calls for the SRO to engage in mentoring (including some informal counseling) and teaching in addition to their law enforcement role. (Canady, 2021). A better understanding of the individual role's potential influence on criminal incidents could prove helpful to school district and law enforcement agency leaders. This quantitative correlational study is a secondary analysis of data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) from 2,762 public school principals or school administrators participating in the 2017-2018 School Survey on Crime and Safety (SSOCS). The variables are Criminal Incidents on K-12 Campuses, Full Triad Implementation (FTI), Partial Triad Implementation (PTI) and No Triad Implementation (NTI) schools. Study findings support specific aspects of the SRO Triad related to implementation levels and specific roles. Study findings also strongly support the presence of an SRO during all instructional hours. Given that most schools in the sub-sample fell into the low incident school grouping and that the one commonality among schools was the presence of an SRO during instructional hours, this implementation is highly recommended, even in the absence of mentoring or teaching.
