مستخلص: Despite efforts to improve student retention and graduation success outcomes, many U.S. four-year postsecondary institutions have experienced limited growth in student retention and graduation rates over the past decade. The purpose of this causal-comparative quantitative study was to determine the mean differences in retention and graduation rates for non-traditional and traditional students enrolled in public and private non-profit four-year postsecondary institutions with business degree programs in the U.S. based on institutional characteristics and student attendance status. This study also addressed a gap in existing literature regarding the role of AACSB business accreditation on retention and graduation rates. This study utilized a collective theoretical framework based on retention and persistence theories, learning theories and andragogy, and transformational and servant leadership. The study population included 820 four-year postsecondary institutions with business schools in the U.S., both public and private non-profit. The study analyzed student retention and graduation rates based on institutional characteristics, including enrollment size, student attendance types, and business accreditation type. One-way ANOVA statistical testing was utilized to examine the mean differences in part-time and full-time student retention and graduation rates across institutional size groups and business accreditation types. For the four research questions, the findings revealed that the most statistically significant differences occurred between AACSB and non-AACSB institutions, with significantly higher retention rates for AACSB institutions across all sizes, particularly for full-time students attending mid-to-larger-sized institutions. The findings from this study provide valuable insights for institutional and business school leaders aiming to improve retention and graduation outcomes.
