مستخلص: This article reports on the increasing number of imaginary nations, sometimes called cybernations, that continue to exist on the Internet as of January 1, 2005. Almazonia is a cybernation founded on the goals of protecting nature, making materialism subordinate to spiritualism, and meritocracy, in which official positions and private jobs are given to citizens who demonstrate competence. A large number of imaginary nations, sometimes called cybernations or micronations, are blossoming on the Internet. The Imaginary Countries WebRing lists 28 sites. Yahoo! has more than 35 entries in its Micronation category. And one can find dozens of links in multiple categories on the Micronation and Sovereignty Website Index. The Micronation Index lists sites in such categories as Model Countries and New Country Projects. While some micronations are utopian dreams, others are nightmares, online exercises in hate. Like real nations, cybernations represent the best and worst of one's ideas on how a society should be formed and governed. If one needs some tips on getting his own country, see How to Start Your Own Micronation. If one's heart aches for a homeland that exists only in the mind, the Web seems the most fertile ground to nurture the vision and share it with others.
