مستخلص: In mid-2002, a new issue-oriented course on the causes and consequences of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was presented at Washington University in Saint Louis, in the Graduate Program in International Affairs. A peace education approach was chosen, among other reasons, to suggest the possibility of peace seeking alternatives to retaliation and revenge. A democratic, deliberative discourse in small groups and in whole-class discussions was adopted, under the belief that classroom democracy would more likely promote peace themes, compared to an autocratic classroom atmosphere. This course was developed in response to several research questions. The course was presented in a five-day, all-day intensive format, ten months after the attacks. It was expected that students might express criticism and dissent more freely by then.
