مستخلص: This is a study on the food practices and preferences of call center agents in Metro Manila. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is an important Philippine economic driver and a popular job option because of competitive compensation packages. However, majority of their clients are located in different time zones which result in irregular working hours. Eating becomes a popular intervention for call center agents to withstand the demands of this unusual work arrangement. The study aimed to a) Identify the type of food available to call center agents; b) Determine the food that they patronize and its accessibility given their work set up and schedule and c) Assess the common reasons for their food preferences. A total of 225 call center agents were surveyed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi square test. Results showed that most BPO or Call Center Companies offer free coffee and water to employees. Majority of the respondents eat in company canteens and fast food restaurants because of convenience. Some also patronize fast food restaurants around their place of work because of their short "lunch" break. Taste and affordable prices are the main reasons call center agents' patronize certain restaurants. In both cases, the participants preferred to eat rice meals which they described as "lutong bahay" or food typically prepared at home. They are however, receptive to healthier food options and more food variety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
