مستخلص: Introduction: Considering the importance of recognizing the determinant and effective variables on marital satisfaction, this investigation was aimed to investigate the moderating role of attachment styles on the relationship of alexithymia with marital satisfaction. Materials and Methods: This is an exploratory and correlational study. Married staff of the Razi and Sina Psychiatric Hospitals in Tehran participated in this study in a four month period in year 2011, voluntarily. Research participants (195 females and 103 males) were asked to complete Adult Attachment Inventory (AAI), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), and Glombok-Rust Inventory of Marital State Questionnaire (GRIMS). Analysis of the data involved both descriptive and inferential statistics including means, standard deviations, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multivariate regression analyses. Results: The results showed that: alexithymia had a significant negative correlation with marital satisfaction (P<0.001); secure attachment had a significant positive correlation with marital satisfaction (P<0.01) and insecure attachment styles had significant negative correlations with marital satisfaction (P<0.001); regression analysis indicated that only secure attachment style had a moderating role on the relationship of alexithymia and marital satisfaction. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that the relationship between alexithymia and marital satisfaction is not a simple linear association it is influenced and moderated by attachment styles.
