مستخلص: Outside metropolitan areas, regional differentiation under post-socialism is heavily influenced by the uneven distribution of industry. The core-periphery differences of service- and industry-based competitiveness underscore the relevance of reindustrialization policies, particularly under the economic crisis. These policies bear different implications across different time horizons, and can be understood as the development of advantageous investment locations to achieve re-specialization, as well as a strong local factor supply. With institutional weaknesses, the path-dependency of restructuring and the lack of domestic capital, there is a need for bridging institutions to articulate diffuse interests and undertake strategic intervention within the local economy.
