This paper addresses the study of the link between the Fondo Nacional de las Artes and modern short film within the reconfiguration of the Argentine cultural field between the mid-fifties and the seventies. In the first place, notions such as época (Gilman, 2003), década larga (Jameson, 1997) and other conceptualizations towards characterizing the dynamism, modernization and politicization of the cultural field at global and national terms are used. In a second instance local paradigmatic examples of aesthetic renewal in different artistic disciplines are explored. Finally, the role of promotion and dissemination of short films carried out by the FNA is analyzed in order to introduce the textual analysis of a corpus of short films produced by this organism. The central features shared by Argentine modern short films and general cultural field will be therefore appreciated, where aesthetic experimentation predominates on social commitment. El presente trabajo aborda el estudio del vínculo entre el Fondo Nacional de las Artes y el cortometraje de carácter innovador en el marco de la reconfiguración del campo cultural argentino entre mediados de la década del cincuenta y del setenta. En primer lugar, se recurre a nociones tales como época (Gilman, 2003), década larga (Jameson, 1997) y otras conceptualizaciones en pos de caracterizar el dinamismo, la modernización y la politización del terreno cultural a nivel global y nacional en el período. En una segunda instancia se exploran ejemplos locales paradigmáticos de renovación estética en diferentes disciplinas artísticas. Finalmente se analiza el rol de promoción y difusión de films breves llevado a cabo por el Fondo con el interés de enmarcar el análisis textual de un corpus de cortos producidos por este organismo. Allí podrán apreciarse los rasgos centrales que han sido compartidos por el cortometraje moderno argentino y el campo cultural general de esta etapa, siendo la experimentación estética predominante por sobre el compromiso social.
