Abstract (English): In recent years various studies have been conducted that indicate the great potential of postharvest residues processing for energy production. Thanks to the new technologies postharvest residues can be utilized in many different ways to obtain heat and electricity and also liquid or gaseous fuels. One of the most important forms of conversion of residues for energy production is pyrolysis. The objective of this study was to provide information on combustion and pyrolysis of cereal straw (wheat straw, barley straw, oat straw, triticale straw). Research has shown that the final products after pyrolysis of cereals straw, biochar and bio-oil, can be used as feedstock for energy production (directly or as a feedstock in the co-incineration), while biochar can be used as soil enhancer. Abstract (Croatian): Posljednjih godina provedena su različita istraživanja koja ukazuju na veliki potencijal prerade posliježetvenih ostataka za proizvodnju energije. Zahvaljujući novim tehnologijama posliježetveni ostaci se mogu na razne načine iskoristiti za dobivanje toplinske i električne energije te tekućih ili plinovitih goriva. Jedan od oblika pretvorbe poljoprivrednih ostataka za dobivanje energije je proces pirolize. Stoga je cilj ovog istraživanja bio utvrditi svojstva slame nekoliko važnijih vrsti žitarica (slama pšenice, ječma, zobi i tritikala) s ciljem uvida u njihov potencijal za proizvodnju energije izravnim sagorijevanjem i pirolizom. Istraživanje je pokazalo da se konačni produkti pirolize slame žitarica, biougljen i bioulje, mogu koristiti kao sirovine za proizvodnju energije (neposredno ili kao sirovina u su spaljivanju), dok se biougljen može koristiti i kao poboljšivač tla.
