Failure to use the regional inferior alveolar nerve block (NAI) anesthetic technique is very present in dental practices, often implying difficulties in performing procedures to be performed. The aim of the present study is to verify if the NAI blocking technique used is sufficient to perform a procedure without presence of pain or anesthetic complementation. Eleven students of both sexes duly enrolled in the Integrated Clinic of the 8th, 9th and 10th semester of the Dentistry course of the Catholic University Center of Quixadá, who performed procedures on posterior teeth of the mandible, participated in the study. Data were collected through a data collection instrument, in the form of a questionnaire, in which all the parameters evaluated regarding the effectiveness of the NAI blocking technique performed by the students were recorded. The results showed that 54.5% (n = 6) of the students were successful in the technique, and failure represented 45.5% (n = 5) of the 11 who performed the procedure, and the complementary technique used to those who did not obtain success was intraligamentar. It is concluded that the NAI regional blocking anesthetic technique presents difficulties for its execution because it is an empirical technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

A falha no emprego da técnica anestésica de bloqueio regional do Nervo Alveolar Inferior (NAI) é bem presente nas práticas odontológicas, muitas vezes implicando dificuldades na execução de procedimentos a serem realizados. O objetivo da presente pesquisa é verificar se a técnica de bloqueio do NAI empregada é suficiente para realizar um procedimento sem presença de dor ou complementação anestésica. Participaram do estudo 11 alunos de ambos os gêneros devidamente matriculados na Clínica Integrada, do 8°, 9° e 10° semestre do curso de Odontologia do Centro Universitário Católica de Quixadá, que realizaram procedimentos em dentes posteriores da mandíbula. Os dados foram coletados através de um instrumento de coleta de dados, em forma de um questionário, no qual foram anotados todos os parâmetros avaliados a respeito da eficácia da técnica de bloqueio do NAI executada pelos alunos. Os resultados mostraram que 54,6% (n=6) dos alunos obtiveram sucesso na técnica, e o insucesso representou 45,4% (n=5) dos 11 que realizaram o procedimento, sendo que a técnica complementar utilizada aos que não obtiveram êxito foi a intraligamentar. Conclui-se que a técnica anestésica de bloqueio regional do NAI apresenta dificuldades para sua execução por ser uma técnica empírica. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
