مستخلص: This study aims to identify the reality and challenges of academic freedom among teaching staff and academics leaders in gulf cooperation council universities to contribute of development that help to promote and develop academic freedom, and to test are there statistically significant differences attributable to university variable, job title, gender, years of experience. The study followed the analytical descriptive method, which applied to the primary data was distributed to (613) academic leaders at these universities at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait University in Kuwait, and Gulf Arab University in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The results of the study. The results indicated that the teaching staff enjoyed a high degree of academic freedom with regard to conducting scientific research, academic freedom in university teaching in addition to the fact that universities have a high degree of academic freedom in appointing teaching staff. There are significant differences in all axses of academic academic freedom attributed to the variables of gender, job title, years of experience and the university. Also, the results showed that the best way to promote academic academic freedom in universities is to activate the participation teaching staff in university decision-making, functioning to raise awareness of the importance of academic freedom and the formation of a superior agency to organize academic freedom in universities.
