مستخلص: A refractive index sensor by Brillouin scattering in a micro fiber with a diameter of 2 μm is experimentally demonstrated. Brillouin peaks introduced by interaction between the fundamental optical mode and axially symmetric radial acoustic modes are identified. We find the axial frequency is linearly proportional to refractive index of sodium chloride solution around 1.33. A refractive index sensitivity of approximately 1.6 GHz/RIU is achieved. It proposes that micro fiber is a candidate for refractive index measurement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
