The architecture of Holy Imam Hussein shrine has a great importance. It is a purely Islamic building in which all the architectural elements are distinguished. They are characterized by authentic and precise architectural elements and features. It is a magnificent architectural building that embodies the Islamic architecture and features the genius of the Muslim artist in the splendor of art, creativity and mastery, and glittering on the walls and ceilings, cutting mirrors composite skillfully finely to match with the types of decorations and varied engravings , expressing itself as a master piece that is unique in the world of engineering and architectural creativity It is the final efforts of hundred minds of artists and architects of different times and places who were dissolved by their faith, dedication and loyalty to their Imams. These minds joined with the wealth of thousands of rich kings, sultans and businessmen to build houses and plots of houses, that includes the master of the martyrs, Hussein bin Ali (peace be upon him). The research includes three sections; the first one focuses on the emergence of the cities of religious shrines and the holy city of Karbala. The second section talks about the architecture of religious shrines and the architecture of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine. إن لعمارة المرقد الحسيني أهمية كبيرة فهي عمارة إسلامية بحتة تتجلى فيها كل العناصر المعمارية وهي ذات سمات وعناصر معمارية أصيلة ودقيقة وهي عمارة فخمة رائعة يتجسد فيها فن العمارة الإسلامية، وتتجلى في معالمه عبقرية الفنان المسلم في روعة الفن والإبداع والإتقان، وتتوهج في جنباته أكداس الذهب والفضة والميناء، وتتلألأ على جدرانه و سقوفه قطع المرايا المركبة بمهارة متناهية لتتناغم مع أنواع الزخارف والنقوش المتنوعة، معبرة عن نفسها بأنها قطعة فنية ق ل نظيرها في عالم الإبداع الهندسي والمعماري أنها عصارة عقول مئات الفنانين والمعماريين من مختلف الأزمنة والأمكنة الذين ذ وبوا مهجهم بدافع العقيدة والتفاني والإخلاص لأئمتهم بعد أن تلاقحت تلك العقول مع ثروات آلاف الأغنياء من الملوك والسلاطين وأرباب التجارة، ليبنوا ويعمروا بيوتا أذن الله أن تُرفع ويُذكر فيها اسمه، فكانت خلاصة العقول والأموال هذه المرقد المبارك والذي يضم سيد الشهداء الحسين بن علي عليه السلام ويتضمن البحث ثلاثة مباحث المبحث الأول نتكلم فيه عن نشؤ مدن المراقد الدينية وعن مدينة كربلاء المقدسة أما المبحث الثاني فنتكلم فيه عن عمارة المراقد الدينية وعمارة المرقد الحسيني أما المبحث الثالث وصف المرقد الحسيني و العناصر المعمارية للمرقد الحسيني.
