This article presents an example of the academic life of a faculty member in the Department of Architecture and Building Science, at the College of Architecture and Planning, King Saud University. It displays his interaction with housing, as one of the subjects of architecture and urbanization, over the span of more than forty years. The article records the writer’s journey with studying, researching, and teaching housing, as well as providing consultations to a number of government and private agencies. It follows, in chronological stages, the writer’s experience in the subject of housing. At each stage the article highlights the factors that shaped that stage and influenced it, whether consequences of people’s influence, events related directly to the writer’s life, or even unexpected external circumstances. The article is divided into stages that formed the writer academic focus on housing and influenced his career; it starts by presenting factors that prepared him to join the Department of Architecture, until the time he became a professor of housing at King Saud University, and the subsequent years. The article aims to document a period of the architectural education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It presents an experience loaded with lessons and guidance to help upcoming generations of students, researchers and faculty members, to achieve greater accomplishments or, at least, enjoy the reading. تعرض المقالة نموذجاً من الحياة الأكاديمية لعضو هيئة تدريس، في قسم العمارة وعلوم البناء بكلية العمارة والتخطيط في جامعة الملك سعود، وتفاعله مع موضوع الإسكان، بصفته أحد تخصصات العمارة والعمران، خلال أكثر من أربعين عاماً. تسرد المقالة مسيرة الكاتب مع دراسة الإسكان، وبحثه، وتدريسه، وتقديم الاستشارات في مجاله لعدد من الجهات الحكومية والخاصة. تتبع المقالة أسلوب المراحل التاريخية في علاقة الكاتب مع موضوع الإسكان، بحيث تسلط الضوء في كل مرحلة من المراحل على العوامل التي أثرت فيها وشكَّلتها، سواء كان التأثير من قبل أشخاص، أو نتيجة أحداث مرتبطة بشكل مباشر بالكاتب خلال مراحل حياته، أو بعوامل ومتغيرات خارجية وطارئة. قُسمت المقالة إلى مراحل تبدأ بالعوامل التي هيأت الكاتب للالتحاق بقسم العمارة، إلى أن أصبح أستاذاً للإسكان بقسم العمارة وعلوم البناء في جامعة الملك سعود وما يليها من أعوام، مروراً بعدد من المراحل والمحطات التي شكلت توجهات الكاتب العلمية وأثرت في مسيرته العملية. تهدف هذه المقالة إلى توثيق مرحلة من مراحل التعليم المعماري في المملكة العربية السعودية، يعرض من خلالها الكاتب نموذجاً لتجربة - وإن كانت متواضعة - للأجيال القادمة من الطلاب والباحثين وأعضاء هيئة التدريس، عسى أن يجدوا فيها دروساً وموجهات تعينهم على تحقيق ما هو أفضل، أو يجدوا، على الأقل، المتعة في قراءتها والاطلاع عليها.
