This bibliographical essay outlines the major developments and challenges of the history of masculinities in Spain (19th and 20th centuries). Over the last few years, there has been a growing interest in this field of research. While the study of masculinities has been included, to a great extent, in the general project of gender history, it has also been closely aligned with political and cultural history. In these pages, I will be looking at the progress made so far in this field, while identifying the main aspects receiving attention from historians, and some of the many issues open to further exploration. Este ensayo bibliográfico recoge los principales avances y desafíos de la historia de las masculinidades en la España contemporánea. Este ámbito de investigación, aún incipiente, ha despertado un interés creciente en los últimos años. En buena medida, la historia de las masculinidades ha sido incorporada al proyecto de la historia de género, manteniendo también una relación estrecha con la historia política y cultural. En estas páginas se dirige la mirada al todavía corto camino andado, identificando los aspectos que han recibido una mayor atención historiográfica y señalando algunas de las muchas cuestiones que permanecen a la espera de futuras investigaciones.
