مستخلص: The current study was conducted to characterize heavy metal resistant bacterial strain isolated from batteries factory wastewater samples and to study their ability for bioremediation. Wastewater samples collected from the batteries factory and 0.1 ml from 103 dilutions were spread on nutrient agar supplemented with 300 mg\l lead. Isolated bacterial strains were tested for resistance to lead (Pb), chromium (Cr) and cadmium (Cd) using the agar well diffusion method. The maximum tolerance concentration of bacterial strains to Pb, Cr and Cd was determined using the nutrient broth. The effect of heavy metals, temperature and pH on the growth of bacterial strains was studied. The ability of the bacterial strain to remove and uptake of Pb, Cr and Cd was tested using a flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The bacterial strain was identified by Vitex2 compact system and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Lead tolerant bacterial strains showed multiple resistant 1900, 500, 100 mg/l for Pb, Cr and Cd respectively with maximum tolerance concentration 2300, 700, 300 mg/l for these metals. Significant decrease in the growth rate of the bacterial strains in presence of heavy metals and the optimum temperature for growth ranged between 30 - 35 °C and the optimum pH value range between 7 in presence of lead, cadmium and 8 for chromium. The strains showed high bio-removal efficiency for lead %93, 98% and highest capacity for lead uptake 352, 444 mg\g at 400, 800mg/l respectively, for chromium and cadmium bio removal efficiency was 64%, 81%with metal uptake 203, 112 mg/g at 200mg/l. Vitex2 and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis identified the strain as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the partial gene sequence was deposited in NCBI with accession number: MT579858.1.Conclusion: Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed high multiple resistant and high removal ability to Pb, Cr, and Cd. Hence Pseudomonas aeruginosa act as a potential bioremediation agent for industrial wastewater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
